What to do when a work injury occurs

If you are injured on the job, it is important that you follow the rules established by the Wyoming Workers’ Compensation Division to properly make a workers compensation claim. Here are some basic guidelines:

First, always seek medical attention if necessary.  Not only could you be risking your health by failing to seek medical attention, but any delay in treatment could also negatively impact your claim.

Next, be sure to promptly report the injury to your supervisor.  Keep in mind that you must report the injury to your employer no later than 72 hours after your injury.  Failure to timely report your injury to your employer could bar you from receiving benefits.

Make note of everyone in the area who may have witnessed your accident/injury.   Be prepared to provide a complete explanation of what you were doing and what caused the injury.

File a Wyoming Report of Injury form with Wyoming Workers’ Compensation Division within ten (10) days signed by you and your employer.  If possible, work together with your employer to prepare and submit the form to the State to ensure it is properly completed.  Failure to timely submit your claim can bar you from receiving benefits.

If you will be missing time from work, make sure you complete an Application for Temporary Total Disability (TTD) and give it to your health care provider to complete and sign.  The TTD application can be found online at http://wyomingworkforce.org/workers/workerscomp/docs/.

You should make and keep photocopies of all papers and documents pertaining to your Workers’ Compensation claim.

If your claim is denied, for any reason, you will need to timely object to the final determination.
